FGV Energia and Itaipu Binacional sign a research partnership in the power sector

Itaipu Binacional signed a partnership with FGV Energia, Center for Energy Studies from Getúlio Vargas Foundation last Thursday (26), to contribute to promote researches targeting the development of the power industry, which may serve to Bionacional itself and other sector companies.

The agreement was signed by Getúlio Vargas Foundation’s Vice-President, Sergio Quintella; by Carlos Otavio Quintella, Executive Director of FGV Energia; by Luiz Roberto Bezerra, coordinator of institutional relation at FGV Energia; and by the general directors of Itaipu, Jorge Samek (Brazil) and James Spalding (Paraguay).

In the agreement, Itaipu becomes part of FGV Energia founding supporters list, next to Furnas. The minimum term of the agreement is five years. “I feel grateful when I see Itaipu’s cooperation due to the importance of this company in the Brazilian scenario,” said Sergio Quintella, who presided the main designer responsible for Itaipu plant’s project in the 70s, International Engineering Company Inc. (Ieco).

According to the Vice-President, the studies that will be carried out as of now with Itaipu’s partnership, may contribute even more for the country to find a new, safe and feasible energy matrix. “Itaipu has a successful history of engineering and will have an important participation in this process.”

The agreement signed this Thursday establishes a two-way path: the supporter contributes to develop the research and, in turn, has the result of such studies to subsidize its decision-making processes, for example. This instrument ensures Itaipu has access to studies, publications, forecasts and energy market analyses and its indications prepared by the institution, headquartered in Rio de Janeiro.

Binacional will have the right to hold a chair in FGV Energia Board of Supporting Entities, and may recommend themes for studies and researches. Itaipu’s participation in events as lectures and congresses promoted by the institution will be ensured, as well as the link of the brand to all materials produced by FGV Energia.
